ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEER


The Environmental Engineer will form part of a fast moving and innovative team delivering a range of environmental-based projects. He/she will apply technical and interpersonal skills to assist the Company in reaching and maintaining project competence in order to ensure a successful and profitable operation, a satisfied customer and a growing client base.

 

The Responsibilities include:

  • Providing overall direction and administration of the assigned projects, effectively managing several activities and projects at one time;
  • Interfacing as required with customer contact and constantly seeking opportunities to promote additional services/areas where the Company can be of further value;
  • Compiling plan of works, method statements, and risk assessments in relation to projects and ensure that these are endorsed by clients and the competent authorities;
  • Preparing and submitting all required reports, documents and data required by agencies to meet regulatory compliance obligations;
  • Negotiating environmental permits that reflect cost-effective process design, reasonable operation constraints, and are consistent with corporate environmental policy and regulatory requirements.
  • Leading the implementation of Quality Management Systems for the Company together with auditing and certifications;
  • Assisting the business development team in preparation and development of technical and commercial proposals, estimates and procedures and planning of projects, with emphasis on technical efficiency and cost-effectiveness;
  • Providing support during client-facing and proposal/ bid clarifications meetings. The Environmental Engineer will be involved in evaluating client’s concepts and/or requirements to identify and develop the business solution, while interfacing with internal business units to prepare sales support deliverables.

 

The role may require the selected person to travel out of country for periods of time to present projects overseas as business needs may require;

 

The Requirements

The person we are looking for will be a responsible and committed employee, with a higher education (such as Masters level) in a science or engineering subject, preferably backed by relevant professional work experience. Additionally, the selected candidate will be required to:

  • Be highly literate, having strong written and verbal communication skills in English;
  • Have the skills to effectively interact with project personnel.
  • Possess strong management and planning skills, with regards to project tasks and budgets.
  • Demonstrate leadership and teamwork and produce high-quality work in a timely, cost-effective manner.
  • Have excellent organizational, interpersonal communication and computer skills.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work with a minimum of direction and supervision.

ENVIRONMENTAL TECHNICIAN

Under the direction of the Operations Manager of a leading environmental services Company, the Environmental Technician will perform a variety of duties involving the removal, transportation, loading and disposal of hazardous wastes and other and non-hazardous materials.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordination, dismantling, collection, stacking and packaging of recyclable (hazardous and non-hazardous) materials; 
  • Decontamination of related areas as per instructions; Loading of recyclable (hazardous and non-hazardous) material onto containers in preparation for shipment; Proper labelling of waste and containers;
  • Collection of consumables required for use on site operations;Use of company vehicles and equipment;
  • Perform routine inspection and preventative maintenance on assigned equipment.

The chosen candidate will perform the following daily functions:

  • Perform physical labour associated with clean-up activities, sample collection, waste removal and other remediation services;
  • Follow applicable safety rules, regulations, guidelines, policies, and site-specific safety plans when performing clean-up activities and donning protective gear;
  • Operate heavy equipment necessary for clean-up operations, including forklift truck, backhoe, excavator, etc.

Requirements:

Ideal candidates will have a minimum of 3 years of experience handling hazardous material projects, and the ability to perform the following daily functions:

  • Able to speak and read English well enough to converse with others,
  • respond to questions and be able to make legible entries on reports and records;
  • Able to perform physical labour associated with clean-up activities, sample collection, waste removal and other remediation services; Be in possession of a driving licence.
